Finding the Well
Jordan St Cyr on Reconnecting with God
In a heartfelt conversation with us, Jordan St. Cyr shares about a time in his life when he felt spiritually drained, despite being deeply involved in ministry. For many of us, this scenario might sound all too familiar, pouring ourselves out without taking the time to refill our spiritual cups.
“Playing a ton of shows, you’re just pouring yourself out,” Jordan shares. Touring with We Are Messengers, he found himself continuously giving without taking time to recharge spiritually. This relentless schedule led to a crucial realization: despite his active involvement in ministry, he felt a disconnection from his spiritual source.
“I wasn’t refilling my cup. And while I didn’t feel far from God, like I was straying, I was not going to the source,” Jordan admits. (01:38:28:15 – 01:38:55:16) While he didn’t feel completely distant from God, he recognized he was not engaging deeply with Him.
Jordan shares a common struggle among believers—being so busy with doing God’s work that we neglect our relationship with Him.
Jordan emphasizes the importance of returning to the source for spiritual nourishment. “I knew God was near… but I needed to go back to the well,” he explains.
What Jordan needed most was to seek God’s presence intentionally. “The byproduct of closeness, not seeking God’s hand but seeking His face, was what I needed,” he says. For Jordan, this meant being present at home, digging into the Word, and engaging with sermons and podcasts. These practices helped him rekindle his connection with God.
Engaging in meaningful relationships with others can bring us closer to God.
Jordan highlights the intertwining of loving God and loving people. “To truly love God with your whole heart and and to love your neighbor as yourself, you’ve got to be close with people. And I think they’re almost interchangeable—to love God and to love people. There’s something there where God draws us to each other.”
Our relationships with others often reflect our understanding of God. “How you treat people is definitely a reflection of your own value system of yourself. But then your understanding of God in His presence,” Jordan notes.
Jordan’s perspective encourages us to evaluate how our interactions with others demonstrate our faith and values.
Spiritual renewal is essential, even for those deeply involved in ministry. By seeking closeness with God and nurturing our relationships with others, we can find the well of spiritual nourishment we need.
Reflect on your own spiritual journey—are you taking time to refill your cup? Are you engaging with your community and seeking God’s presence every day?
