Lisa Harper Reveals

Why Storytelling is Essential in Understanding Faith

Lisa Harper’s love for God, His Word, and people is contagious. A master storyteller, Lisa brings biblical truths to everyday life. With her rich ministry background, she captivates both hearts and minds by making Christian teachings both relatable and sincere.

“I had a young pastor recently say, ‘How do you frame what you teach?’” Lisa shared. “I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not nearly that strategic.’ I came out of the womb a storyteller.” Her natural ability to tell stories highlights their universal appeal—breaking through cultural and linguistic barriers to touch hearts everywhere.

Jesus’ Use of Parables

“I was young, probably in high school, and I heard somebody talk about how most of Jesus’ harmonic material is parabolic, that He told stories,” Lisa reflected. Both simple and effective, by framing his teachings in familiar scenarios, Jesus made sure people leaned into His messages and deeply understood them.

“Good theologies are conversations about God that are based in the parameters and promises of Scripture,” Lisa explained. Her stories act as bridges, bringing spiritual concepts into our daily lives and making biblical discussions personal and practical.

Personal Stories as Teaching Tools

“There are many who would say I tell too many stories and don’t do enough great syntax. And when I try to be more academic, I’m just a total poser,” Lisa continued. “That’s just not the way God knit me. So I try to be as responsible as I can, the way God has wired me, and make sure that Jesus is the hero of every story.”

Stories can powerfully convey faith, hope, and love.

A firm believer in using the power of personal stories to convey theological truths, Lisa said, “I think anecdotes help people realize what’s relevant today. This isn’t a textbook to memorize. This is truth to engage with.” Through her anecdotes, Lisa shares knowledge but also invites her audience into the experience where they can see their lives reflected and transformed.

The Impact of Storytelling

Lisa observed, “People are not nearly as impressed with where you got it right, as their need to hear where you got it wrong, and God rescued you from the pits you dug yourself.”

Lisa knows it’s the stories of personal failure and subsequent redemption that often strike a chord, offering hope and a pathway to understanding that God’s grace is sufficient for all.
