Riley Clemmons’ Secret to Setting Boundaries

Riley Clemmons, a rising star in contemporary Christian music, talked to us about her journey through the music industry, the pressures she faced, and how she has remained true to her faith and to who God has called her to be.

Starting her career while still a teen, Riley faced immense pressure to please others and conform to industry expectations. “I love to make people happy and make them clap,” Riley admits. Reflecting on her early years, she reveals, “I just wanted to make people proud of me.”

At that young age, Riley was driven by a desire to do things right and to hear the applause, a common sentiment among many young artists. However, as she grew older, she began to understand. “I look back now and, I’m able to see that so much of that was coming from a place of insecurity and fear,” she confesses.

The difference between her mindset at 18 and now is significantgrowth that has allowed her to move from a place of seeking approval to living more genuinely. “I’ve really taken some time to figure out how to live authentically and write authentically and lean into my faith,” she shares. For Riley, authenticity means staying true to her beliefs, even when faced with external pressures.

One of the most transformative aspects of Riley’s journey has been her commitment to daily faith practices. “Every single morning with my first cup of coffee, I do my devotion. I read the Word. I listen to a podcast on what I’m reading, which I’ve loved doing this year,” she explains.

Riley’s routine helps stay connected to God, providing her with the strength and clarity she needs to navigate her busy life. Additionally, Riley finds strength and connection with God through journaling. “I love journaling to God. Like a prayer journal,” she says, emphasizing how this practice helps her process her thoughts and feelings while maintaining a close relationship with Him.

Personal growth and faith are ongoing journeys.

Another crucial aspect of Riley’s well-being is setting healthy boundaries, particularly regarding social media. “Learning what is not healthy for my brain and committing to creating boundaries there has been life changing,” she states. In today’s digital age, the pressure to be constantly online and engaged can be overwhelming. “It can be a never- ending beast that we can get so caught up in,” Riley acknowledges.

She warns of the “vortex of comparison” that can trap anyone, not just artists, into feeling inadequate or unfulfilled. By identifying what is unhealthy and setting boundaries, Riley protects her mental health and stays true to her faith in God.

Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, Riley was exposed to a variety of genres, from her dad’s classic rock to her mom’s southern gospel. “I listen to so many different styles of music,” she says, crediting her eclectic taste to her parents’ musical preferences and the rich musical culture of Nashville. Artists like Billy Joel and Amy Grant also inspire her, showcasing her wide-ranging musical appreciation.

Reflecting on her journey, Riley acknowledges that the path to authenticity and faith is ongoing. “Every day is a new challenge,” she says, but her faith practices and boundaries provide a strong foundation.

Riley encourages fellow believers to examine their own lives and identify areas where they may be conforming to external pressures rather than living authentically. By embracing daily devotions, journaling, and setting boundaries, she believes we can find a deeper connection with our faith and a greater sense of peace and purpose.

Whether you’re an artist, a creative, or someone simply trying to live a more intentional life in Christ, we hope Riley’s story offers insights and inspiration to help you on your own path.
