New Era for Family Life Radio

I’m pleased to announce that Family Life Radio has recently transitioned into a third generation of ministry leadership. The future is bright!
Nearly 53 years ago, God led Warren Bolthouse to start a radio station in his basement that would reach people in his hometown of Jackson, Michigan. Warren couldn’t have imagined then how his small seed of faith would grow into a worldwide ministry.
When Warren retired in 1996, I, Dr. Randy Carlson, was asked by the board to serve as president and lead us into a second generation of ministry. What an honor. Since then, Family Life Radio has grown into a network of 43 stations, covering over 17 million people in 11 states, along with an expanding worldwide online audience. During this time, we also added the Intentional Living Center—our equipping ministry for individuals and families.
I’ve heard it said, “There is no success without a successor.” Knowing we needed to prepare for reaching the next generation, I asked the board of directors some time ago to appoint a succession committee to work toward finding the future leader for the ministry. That committee completed its work several months ago, leading to the recent appointment of a third generation of ministry leadership.
Therefore, I’m happy to announce that on November 1, 2018, Evan Carlson was appointed by the board of directors to become president and chief operating officer of Family Life Communications. Evan brings to this new role years of ministry leadership experience, passion for Christ, a strong educational background and a vision for the future.
I’m not retiring. But as chairman and CEO, I am giving concentrated effort to help grow our Intentional Living ministry, reaching more people with this powerful life-changing message of hope, peace and freedom. Donna and I thank you for your ongoing partnership in prayer and support, and we look forward to many years of shared service together for the Kingdom. We believe even greater days are ahead because of God’s intentional love.

It is an incredible honor to serve you in the role of president for Family Life Radio and Intentional Living. Growing up in this ministry (literally!), I’ve seen firsthand the sacrifice and dedication that my grandfather and my dad have given to take the ministry from an idea to a worldwide outreach.
Over the years I’ve had the privilege to serve in many different roles within our ministry. As I start this new chapter, I want to recognize my wife Kelly and our daughters Kylie and Kinsley right off the bat, as this truly is a complete family investment and commitment. As a family, we’re passionate about this ministry because we know that God is using it to make an eternal impact.
This is a strategic time for God’s ministry. As technology evolves, it provides us the opportunity to bring Gods Word to life for countless individuals around the globe. Thank you for helping us reach a hurting world that needs to know Jesus loves them, they have value, and there is a purpose and a plan for their life.
Lamentations 3:22–23 reminds us, “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (ESV). God has carried this ministry through two generations of leadership, and I’m excited to see His faithfulness continue through my generation and beyond.
