Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Chef Donald had hopes of furthering his career in the culinary arts until his dreams came to an abrupt halt. On the night of December 3, 2010, Donny was involved in a life-altering car accident causing severe damage to his hip, back, ankle and legs. After extensive surgeries and months spent in rehabilitation at Erie County Medical Center, the fracture in his spine has left him paralyzed from the waist down.
As an avid outdoorsman, former Army specialist and the Executive Chef at Harry’s Harbour Place Grille for the past ten years, Donny takes pride in his abilities both inside and outside the kitchen. Locally he has been seen in cooking competitions such as “Buffalo’s Top Chef” and frequented AM Buffalo, sharing his passion for cooking with the people of Buffalo. Prior to his accident, he was casted for a placement in FOX televisions hit show “Hell’s Kitchen” with Gordon Ramsey.
Because of his injuries and paralysis, Donny has had to put his life on hold.
On April 25th, 2011, friends and family of Donny will hold a benefit to help him seek experimental treatment at the XCell Center in Germany to cure spinal cord injuries. Proceeds will also help to defray the exorbitant medical bills incurred during his three-plus month hospital stay. While Donny has been released from the hospital and now resides in Elma, NY his recovery is being hindered by these medical bills, and necessary equipment to help Donny get back on his feet.
