My nephew, A, is a recovering substance abuser. He is my sister's eldest son and he and I have been very close all his 37 years, even though we live over 1000 miles apart.
He was molested by a man through their church when he was 12 but he didn't tell me until he was 19, because his parents wanted it hushed up. They didn't pursue the case, choosing instead to sweep it under the rug. When A told me - he apologized for it happening. The poor child, even now, believes it was somehow his fault and I think that's why he keeps having struggles in his life - he doesn't value himself.
A's working and has been doing well for the last year - so recently, I loaned him a bit of money for the deposit on his own apartment (he'd been living in a "sober house"). He's moved in and seems quite happy. I'd like to ask for prayers for his continued improvement. A loves the Lord & tries to do right by him, he just needs some nudging sometimes, to keep from getting sidetracked.
Please pray that A will see how he is so loved by God. Pray that he can find a way to love himself and be content with who he is. And, lastly, if you would please pray for he and I to be able to stay honest and true with each other. I'm worried he'll vanish past the point of no return.
