My sister and her husband adopted a pre-teen girl last year who has Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) from being neglected as a small child and moved from foster home to foster home all through childhood and early middle school. My niece is really struggling - she steals from friends and family, lies (even over simple things like whether she threw the used paper towel on the floor instead of the trash can), has had secret boyfriends, and almost sent inappropriate photos to a “boyfriend”. My sister, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit was able to stop this last action moments before it happened. Our family is Christian, and my niece has excellent examples of Christ’s love in my sister, her husband, and the other children in their household. Right now, they are in “crisis mode” with my niece as she requires most of my sister’s attention. Because of RAD, my niece does not feel real sorrow, regret, or want forgiveness even though she may cry when caught or say she is sorry. She does not have a conscience. Please pray that God will heal her heart and mind from this mental condition. Please also pray for peace for my sister, her husband, and their family as this situation is negatively affecting the mental health of my other nieces and nephews in the household.
