Broken but Blessed

How our wounds become healing when shared

More than a gifted vocalist and performer— Tauren Wells is a storyteller and truth-sharer who brings biblical concepts into sharp, relatable focus. In his new book Joy Bomb, Tauren takes on one of the most difficult realities of the human experience: pain. He talked about it in a recent conversation with Family Life Radio Morning Show.

For Tauren, the question isn’t whether we’ll be broken—but how God might use our brokenness to bring healing to others.

The Power of a Scar

Tauren points to Revelation 12:11 as a foundation—“The scripture says that we overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of our testimony. And so it’s not just our key to getting free—it’s our key to staying free.”

That testimony often comes from places of deep pain. Instead of hiding those places, Tauren urges us to bring them into the light. “Every scar is a key that unlocks the door to someone else’s healing.”

But many believers, he says, are so afraid of being “found out” that they hide their scars—keeping the very keys that could set others free.

You Are Not Alone

Tauren recounts a powerful moment from a student ministry event that used a method popularized by MTV’s If You Really Knew Me. Students were asked to step forward in response to difficult truths—grief, abuse, loss.

“Pretty soon the whole room was in the altar… everyone is going through something painful.”

It’s sobering to think we’re all walking through storms, whether we show it or not. But Tauren says, “If we would be willing enough to be like Jesus, and show people our scars, they would know that healing exists.”

Create space for others to be seen, heard, and healed.

The enemy’s strategy, Tauren explains, is to convince us we’re alone in our pain. “That’s a hell-hatched lie. You are not alone in your struggles, in your loneliness, in your failures. You’re not alone.”

Tauren challenges Christ follers to create space for others to be seen, heard, and healed. Not by perfection—but by honesty. When we reveal our broken parts, we reflect a Savior who did the same.

Your Wounds Aren’t Wasted

Your story matters. Your scars are sacred. When surrendered to God, your pain can serve a redemptive purpose far beyond your imagination.

“We’ve got to allow people to know what God has done so they can believe in what God can do.”

The power of a joy bomb—it detonates not in spite of brokenness, but through it.

Tauren Wells is a Grammy-nominated Christian artist, pastor, and author known for hits like “Known” and “Joy in the Morning.” He and his wife, Lorna, co-lead Church of Whitestone in Austin, Texas.
