Proclaim Your Freedom

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord anointed me To bring good news to the humble; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners.

─ Isaiah 61:1 NASB

Proclaim Your Freedom

Isaiah 61 is a proclamation of God’s favor upon His people by the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah’s words referenced the year of Jubilee, when all debts would be cancelled, slaves would be set free and property returned to the original owner. In Isaiah’s time, God’s people remained conquered and oppressed following their release from Babylonian captivity. But His words pointed to the prophetic fulfillment of the Promised One, Jesus.

Jesus stood up and read the words from our verse today during His earthly ministry (Luke 4:18). Jesus announced himself as the One who would set the captives free, and fulfil the words spoken by the prophet Isaiah, when He boldly declared the scripture was fulfilled that day through Him.

The Lord’s favor brings good news to the humble, healing to the brokenhearted and liberty to those held captive in any way.

You may feel like a prisoner, held in bondage to the circumstances in your life. No matter how you got here – whether it was from your own mistakes or something someone else did to cause you pain – Jesus came to set you free.

Today’s One Thing

Proclaim your freedom today. Whatever you need to be set free from, go to God and thank Him for the liberty you have through Christ Jesus. Then, receive the same power to see this challenge through with God’s favor and blessing at work on your behalf.

Has God set you free from a difficult season. Please share your story with us so that others may be encouraged and grow in faith.
