Remember God And All He’s Done

The word remember is used 240 times in the Old and New Testaments. God calls us to remember who He is, what He’s done for us and for others, what His Word says and what He’s promised to do in the future.

Remember his covenant forever, the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations.

─ 1 Chronicles 16:15 ESV

Let’s look at a few powerful verses about remembering:

• “Take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery” (Deuteronomy 6:12 ESV).
• “Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you” (1 Corinthians 11:2 ESV).
• And when [Jesus] had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24 ESV).
• “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8 ESV).
• The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot (Proverbs 10:7 ESV).

Looking back gives you the opportunity to count your blessings and thank God.

Our verse today instructs us to remember His covenant, the promises He made to Abraham and a thousand generations beyond him (see Genesis 12:1-3).

Looking back often reminds us of our mistakes, but it also gives us an opportunity to recount the blessings of God. Yes, He offered you salvation, but how many times has He saved your life physically – kept you from a car wreck, a house fire or simply from being in the wrong place at the right time for tragedy?

Today’s One Thing

As you think about this week of remembrance leading up to the 20^th anniversary of September 11^th, look back and thank God for His covenant promise to bless you and keep you.
