Tell of His Wonderful Love

How many times has God rescued you? Probably more times than you can count or even remember.

Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!
─ Psalm 107:21-22 ESV

God wants to be your hero, your rescuer and your redeemer. Psalm 107 celebrates the Jews’ return from Babylon, where they’d lived in exile, home to Jerusalem.

It tells the story of four kinds of people in distress and how God rescued them: wanderers, prisoners, the sick and the storm-tossed.

  • The wanderers traveled in distress without finding a city to settle in, but they cried out to God, and He led them to a city where they could settle (v. 6-7).
  • Prisoners suffered in iron chains until God broke away their chains (v. 10-14).
  • The sick cried out and He healed them, rescuing them from the grave (v. 17-20).
  • For the storm-tossed, He stilled the storm to a whisper and the waves of the sea, He hushed (v.28-29).

This phrase is repeated six times in Psalm 107: “Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love.” And our verse above begins with this refrain and ends with a command to tell of His wonderful love.

Whatever difficulty you face today, God in His wonderful love stands by to rescue you.
