Stand Out; Don’t Blend In

Do you like bland food? For the most part, we like seasoning. Everything just tastes better. If you’ve ever used a seasoning but it didn’t add to the flavor, it would have been better if it had been left out. It added no value at all to the taste of the recipe.

You are like salt for everyone on earth. But if salt no longer tastes like salt, how can it make food salty? All it is good for is to be thrown out and walked on.
─ Matthew 5:13 CEV

Salt stands out. It can stand alone, or when added to other seasonings, it brings out the best flavor of the food. Your value to the kingdom of God is very similar.

You are called to stand out.

In our verse today, Jesus compares His followers to salt. You are the salt of the world. You have something the world cannot offer. You have an experience, a relationship, a knowledge of God that is unlike anything the rest of the world has to offer.

As you follow after Christ, your life is meant to make a difference. You can influence the world and bring God glory by following His lead. You can bring out the best in others. You should not blend into the world but stand out. God has given you an assignment to influence others for the kingdom.

Today’s One Thing
What has God asked you to do lately that perhaps you’ve procrastinated about? Obey God quickly today and see what he desires to do not just in the life of those involved, but in your life too.
