What Has God Purposed in Your Heart?

Grammy Award winner and nine-time Dove Award winner, Rebecca St. James did what a lot of women have done: she left a successful career to be with her family.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
─ Romans 8:28 ESV

The times and seasons are in God’s hands. The dreams we have often are placed there by God when we are seeking to live according to His will for our lives.

“It was a no brainer for me, not a hard thing to do at all,” Rebecca shared, on her decision ten years ago to put her music career on hold to become a full time wife and mother.

“We [she and Jacob, bassist for the band Deezer] had just gotten married a year prior,” she said. “This was my dream, to be married and have a family, and it was a joy to transition to that quieter track.”

When you follow what God has placed in your heart, He brings all the details together to serve His purpose.

After nearly a decade of being away, God called Rebecca back to music. “It wasn’t something I was looking for,” she said, “But I realized I missed the connection I have with Jesus when I sing. It was a profound moment.”

Last March, Rebecca released the lead single from her much-anticipated new album Kingdom Come (which features her brothers, Joel and Luke Smallbone of For King and Country).

Sometimes we look at our lives and wonder if the tug at our heart is one we should pursue. In the natural the decision to leave one thing to pursue another can seem costly; but when you follow what God has placed in your heart, He brings all the details together to serve His purpose and use your life for His glory.

Today’s One Thing
If you are struggling with a decision about whether or not to pursue a dream, put it in God’s hands. Ask Him to open the door and make a way. Trust His timing, and if the door opens, be willing to walk through with confidence that He will see you through.
