Seed Sower

If you’ve ever planted tomato, green bean, cucumber or watermelon seeds, you may have been tired afterward, but the anticipation of seeing the plant grow and produce made it worth your effort. For you believed you would soon harvest and taste the fruits of your labor. In a similar way, Jesus talked about sowing seeds when He shared the Parable of the Sower.

Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. ─ Luke 8:11 ESV

The parables Jesus shared with followers often contain an allegory – a surface story within the primary. For some listeners, the surface story is sufficient, but those truly intrigued heard the power of the underlining story and embraced a deeper meaning.

One such parable is the Parable of the Sower found in Luke 8:4-15, Mark 4:1-20 and Matthew 13: 1-23. When you read this parable, which characters within the story do you relate to the most?

Sow the Word of God everywhere you go.

When you consider yourself the sower, who constantly scatters the Word everywhere you go, regardless of where it lands, you demonstrate that you trust the Holy Spirit to nurture the seeds thrown. In alignment with the parable, the seeds you’re scattering are the Word of God, and the Word teaches believers to be kind, loving, encouraging, patient, gentle and self-controlled (Galatians 6).

When you sow these seeds, you may want to watch to see how the seeds are growing. This is not what the Lord wants you to do. He promises that what you sow, you will also reap (Galatians 6: 7-8). He wants you to constantly sow the seeds and allow Him to nurture the seeds you’ve thrown.

It’s up to the Him to prepare the recipient to receive the seeds you are sowing. Your harvest will come because of God’s grace and promise. His Word is alive and full of energy. If you do your part, God will do His.

Read the Parable of the Sower from Luke 8:4-15, Mark 4:1-20 or Matthew 13: 1-23. Pray and ask the Lord to help you understand the seeds He wants you to scatter abundantly without discrimination.
