The Picture Your Words Paint

You can get to know a person well by what they talk about. A fisherman will tell you fish tales; a golfer will highlight the best games; a financial planner may point toward the best investments; a grandmother shows you pictures of her grandchildren or a mother tells the latest things her child has achieved.

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

─ Luke 6:45 ESV

The words of your lips paint the picture of your life. Positive, encouraging, God-inspired words bring light and life into your world and the world of those around you. Negative, demeaning, depressed and down-hearted words develop dark and sad, limp and life-less images. So what image is your heart drawing with your words?

What you talk about most reveals what is closest to your heart.

Jesus said your heart will tell on you – if you have good things in your heart, it will come out of your mouth, and likewise, if you have bad things in your heart, it will also come out.

What you talk about most reveals what is closet to your heart. Sometimes you can be so busy speaking, sharing, venting or justifying that you forget to pause and listen for the condition of your heart. The words you speak tell you when it’s time to refuel and recharge. When the image your words are painting begins to move from light to darkness, take notice

Today’s One Thing

Listen to your words today and measure them. How many times are they negative vs. positive? How often does what you say bring honor to God? Talk to God and ask Him to reveal to you any changes you need to make as the picture of your heart comes into focus.
