Close the Door and Pour

Little is big in the hands of God.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

– Philippians 4:19 ESV

With her husband gone, the widow was distraught. Due to debt, she was about to lose her two sons as well. The creditor was coming to take them as slaves. She cried out to Elisha, a prophet of God, and reminded him that her husband revered the Lord. Elisha compassionately asked how he could help. “What do you have in your house?” he inquired.

When the widow responded she only had a small jar of olive oil, Elisha knew the plan. He told her to ask her neighbors for as many empty jars as she and her sons could collect. Then she was to go inside, shut the door and pour oil into all the jars.

She did as Elisha instructed, no questions asked. The widow poured oil until she was out of the many jars, and it was not until then that the oil ceased to flow. When she told the man of God, he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

Will you close your door and bring to God what little you have to offer?

The unnamed woman from 2 Kings 4:1-7 knew enough to cry out to God’s man. She followed his instructions and offered up what little she had. The woman offered all she had, and God multiplied what she gave, providing abundantly for her needs. God multiplied her small jar of oil. He took her faith and obedience and provided for her needs.

There are times when you must close your door and bring to God what little you have to offer. When you do, look out for the overflow of His provision and blessings.

Today’s One Thing

Close your door and get alone with God. Be honest with Him about your needs. Wholeheartedly surrender to Him what you have to give, whether that’s your finances, time or talent. Watch how He multiplies what you offer.
