Church with Evvie McKinney

Singer and songwriter, Evvie McKinney, reflected on her experience with church, “There is something about being around other believers that gives you a different type of strength than the world gives.”

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
– Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV

You may have heard it said, “If you find a perfect church, do not join it because then it will not be perfect.” There is truth to that. Any place where human beings gather, there will be imperfection. But throughout the Bible, there are believers coming together. They discuss the things of God, worship together, pray and help to meet one another’s physical needs. This is called church.

During the pandemic many found a way to “gather” online. Some got comfortable watching live streaming or videos of sermons. What may have been lost for some is the corporate worship, caring love and accountability of physically being with a group of Christ followers.

Church is coming together with other believers to focus on God and His faithfulness.

Evvie describes this meaningful time in her song:

When the world gets heavy
Starts to weigh me down
When I get a little lost and
I gotta go get found
Ain’t nothing like a Sunday morning for my soul
Ain’t nowhere else I want to go
Take me to Church
Singing hallelujah, telling my fears goodbye
Church
My worry falls down when my God gets lifted high
Everything I ever needed
I can only find in Jesus
I have seen it, I believe it
So take me to, take me to
Church

You need time with other believers. You find strength in corporate fellowship like no other place. You learn and grow. When you worship together, as the song says, your worries fall down as God gets lifted high.

Today’s One Thing
Pray and ask God to show you where you might find a strengthening church, one that would point you to the truth of God’s Word. If you are already in a church, find out how you might get more involved.
