Look to the Lord

There are moments when life is complex and the events occurring are ridiculous. Corrie Ten Boom said, “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God, you’ll be at rest.”

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33 NIV

Jesus is speaking to His disciples in John 16:33. He naturally says something important to His select crew, who already understands that life is challenging and that they have experienced their own obstacles. In fact, He is telling His disciples this principle just moments before He is arrested and taken to be crucified soon thereafter.

But Jesus doesn’t leave them hanging with, “In this world, you will have troubles.” He encourages them to take heart because He has already overcome the world. It’s like He’s saying, “Yeah, things might be tough sometimes, but don’t worry, because I’ve got this. I’ve already won, and you can too because you’re with me.”

Christ has won your battle; trust in the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you through your challenges.

Jesus did not promise a trouble-free life, but rather He offered reassurance that you do not have to face the world’s troubles by yourself. Even amid challenges, you can focus on Him. You can experience peace and rest by trusting in Jesus. He offers a unique way of dealing with the world’s brokenness and difficulties by delivering hope when you trust in Him.

By recognizing the world’s brokenness and trusting in Jesus, you can find peace beyond your efforts to find happiness or satisfaction.

Today’s One Thing
Release any anxieties and challenges you’re wrestling in your mind by asking Jesus for His help. Afterward, trust in Him and rely on the Holy Spirit to guide you. Be at peace, pursue answers and watch how He orchestrates things to work out. Look to Him.
