New Day, New Opportunities

Have you ever struggled with an addiction or a mindset that was detrimental? You can reconcile the past by taking responsibility for your actions and thoughts. Seek the Lord and watch your life transform positively. It’s not easy, but it’s absolutely worth it!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
– 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

When you place your faith in Jesus, you are given a new identity as a child of God, and your old self and behavior are dead. This means, your past mistakes, failures, bad behavior and sins no longer define you. You are free to embrace a new beginning.

The Bible teaches an important tension between forgetting the past and moving forward. On the one hand, you are called to forget the things behind you and press towards the future God has in store for you (Philippians 3:13-14). On the other hand, you are called to remember how God has been faithful in the past and use those memories as a source of strength and encouragement (Psalm 77:11-12).

When a new beginning is paramount, surrender completely to the Lord, let go of any guilt, shame or regret and choose to focus on the present and future. Acknowledge that you are not defined by your past mistakes, but rather by the grace of God.

Christ has redeemed you, reconciled your past and provided you with a new future.

As you move forward, seek to live in a way that reflects your new identity in Christ. Live a life that pleases Him and use your gifts and talents to serve others.

New beginnings require a daily commitment to walk in step with the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to guide and transform you from the inside out. With each incremental forward step, making adjustments when appropriate, you will soon notice how the Lord is transforming your life. Your new beginning is worth the responsibility.

Today’s One Thing
If any of your past disrupts you or your mindset, remind yourself of the new identity God has provided you with. How does your life look different? Thank God for where He’s brought you from to where you are today. Each day is an opportunity for a new beginning with Him.
