Wait for His Directing Voice

Charles Spurgeon said, “‘Stand still’ – keep the posture of an upright man, ready for action, expecting further orders, cheerfully and patiently awaiting the directing voice; and it will not be long ere God shall say to you, as distinctly as Moses said it to the people of Israel, ‘Go forward.’”

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, And He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled down, Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.
– Psalm 37:23-24 NASB

In life, we often feel the pressure to constantly be in motion, making decisions and taking action. Charles Spurgeon’s words provide a powerful reminder that sometimes in life, we just need to stand still and patiently wait for God to give us further instructions. This posture of readiness requires faith and trust in God’s timing and plans for our lives.

Sometimes you need to stand still before it’s time to go forward.

Psalm 37:23-24 reminds us that the steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He holds our hand, keeping us from harm. When we stand still and wait for His direction, we can trust that He will lead us in the right path.

By cultivating a habit of stillness and seeking God’s guidance, we can develop a deeper trust in His plan for our lives.

Today’s One Thing
Take intentional moments of stillness today. This could look like setting aside time each day for quiet reflection and prayer, or intentionally slowing down and pausing before making a decision.
