Don’t Care

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

─ 1 Peter 5:6-7

Lilly worried! She had a desperate need to control things because of the lack of control she experienced as a child in the home of a heavy-handed father. And when it came to something she simply couldn’t control, she worried. She had worry lines on her forehead to prove it.

But that was starting to change. After she gave her heart to Christ as a young adult, she began to learn all that Jesus had done for her at the cross, and that she could trust Him to care for her and perfect the things that concerned her. And there were a lot of things that concerned her.

Her girlfriend, Gretchen commented to her while they were shopping together. “You seem so much more carefree. You don’t seem to let things bother you like you use to. What had changed?”

“I have,” Lilly replied confidently. I’ve decided to take the Lord at his Word and believe that he truly cares for me. Knowing that I can trust him to work things together for my good means I don’t have to find a way to make things come together. I don’t have to worry about how he’s going to do it, or think about what might go wrong. I truly don’t care!”

“You don’t care?” Gretchen questioned?

“Well, I don’t care in the way that you think,” Lilly explained. “Whatever I’m concerned about, I give that care to Him. I don’t have to care for it, hold it in my heart and mind, or try to make it turn out a certain way. I can give that care to Him, and trust that whatever He does with that care is truly the best possible outcome for me.”

Today’s One Thing

What cares are you holding on to today? Give them to the Lord today and then follow His direction as to what He’d have you do.
