Your Heart, God’s Home

Now the word of the Lord came to Solomon, “Concerning this house that you are building, if you will walk in my statutes and obey my rules and keep all my commandments and walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father. And I will dwell among the children of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel.”

─ 1 Kings 6:11-13 ESV

Natalie wasn’t sure about overcoming her addiction. The rehab hadn’t been easy, and the temptation was real. The difference now was that she truly understood that her body was no longer her own. She shared it now with God. She belonged to Him. She felt the Holy Spirit’s help when she needed strength to stand up to the addiction. She felt stronger as she held on to keeping her body holy and reserved as a temple for Him.

King Solomon built God a house – a temple for the people to come to for worship and experience the Almighty’s presence. God promised His presence would never leave the temple as long as the Israelites obeyed God’s law.

When we accept Christ, we invite Him to take up residence and abide in us. This means the Holy Spirit, our helper, lives within us. It’s vital to recognize our bodies are no longer our own, but temples, where God Himself resides.
