3 Things to Do for Anxiety

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

─ Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV

In Philippians 4, the Apostle Paul talks about anxiety and offers us the solution to it. He tells us not to be anxious for anything but in everything – in your finances, in your health and in your relationships – by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

Let’s highlight the three things to do with feelings of anxiety in our lives:

  1. Pray

As a parent, don’t you want your children and your grandchildren to tell you what they are feeling, what they are going through, and what’s good in their life? It’s just as important for us to go to our Heavenly Father and say, “I am really anxious about this,” and use the word, anxious. Take it to Him on a regular basis and tell Him, “This is something I just can’t handle myself. I need you.”

Something happens to us when we pray. The power of prayer is not only spiritual, but also psychological and emotional.

  1. With supplication

Supplication means asking, petitioning or requesting. “God, would you please take this anxiety I’m feeling from me.” When we supplicate, we ask boldly with expectation.

  1. With thanksgiving

We are to come to God with a thankful heart.

Today’s One Thing

Write Philippians 4:6 on an index card. Underline the word, “everything” and read it as a reminder throughout the day.
