The Right Posture Toward Life

Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

─ Proverbs 3:25-26 ESV

Winston Churchill said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” Attitude is defined as “your posture toward life.”

What does that have to do with us as Christians concerning those things that are important, but we keep holding back on? According to Proverbs 3:25-26, we have no reason to fear when the unexpected comes. We have hope and assurance that the Lord will keep us. When you turn your mindset to Christ into a God-confident attitude of faith, you will develop a new attitude of faith.

So how do we get a new attitude?

  1. Memorize scripture. How many verses can you recall right now? How many times can you turn your mind to scripture that will encourage you?
  2. Pick the right friends. Spend time with people who will speak truth into your life, who will tell you when you are off base, encourage you and point you in the right direction. It’s important to have people in your life who will build you up and not tear you down.
  3. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill your life. The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). The Holy Spirit was given to us as our Comforter. The Holy Spirit is real and the Bible is very clear that every day we should be filled with the Holy Spirit. It’s an opportunity every day to just open your life and say, “Today Holy Spirit, I ask you to fill my life. Let your spirit flow through me so that I would have the confidence of God to do this one thing today that you’ve placed in my life to be intentional about.”
  4. Change your vocabulary. The little statements we make affect how we view ourselves and how we view other people.

Today’s One Thing

Decide today that you will choose to change your attitude by implementing these four encouraging ways to keep your attitude in check.
