What Does Wisdom Look Like?

If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.

─ James 1:5 AMPC

Every one of us could use more wisdom of the God kind. Wisdom from God is not only about knowledge, but also the capacity to make wise decisions during troublesome situations life brings.

God has promised to give us wisdom. All we have to do is ask Him for it. James said He will give it generously and willingly, without reprimand or faultfinding. This wisdom we need has three distinct and notable features:

  1. It is divine.

Heavenly wisdom goes far beyond common sense. Surprisingly, it inspires us to choose to delight in God’s faithfulness and goodness while going through a storm. This wisdom begins with reverence and love for God and carries with it the ability to discern God’s purpose, plan and direction.

  1. It is real and practical.

Wisdom from God is active all the time. It’s not at work only when trials appear. However, it’s the instrument used most to overcome those trials. A smart individual can have weighty thoughts, but a wise person has the supernatural know-how to put profound ideas into action.

  1. It is Christlike.

When you ask for wisdom, you’re actually asking to act and think like Christ. Jesus is the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24; 2:1-7).

Today’s One Thing

Activate the wisdom of God today. Pray and believe that God is at work in you. Ask Him to show you divine wisdom, to give you supernatural ideas and the insight in how to put those actions into place in your life.
