Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say So!

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.

─ Psalm 107:1-2 NKJV

“I can’t believe it’s been a year, and Michael still hasn’t found a job,” Dayna told her sister, Kristen.

“I know,” Kristen replied. “I never dreamed it would take this long. It’s crazy.”

“What’s crazy is that God hasn’t intervened,” Dayna scoffed. “You guys are faithful and have given so much to others all these years.”

Kristen looked sternly at her sister. “How do you know God hasn’t intervened? How do you know that the delay hasn’t kept us from another heartache? I’d rather wait on God and be in the right place at the right time – even if it’s difficult and hard – than to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and it cost everything.”

“I’m sorry.” Dayna said. “I just hate to see you guys struggle.”

“We’re okay. It’s been hard, but God has faithfully kept us. He’s provided for us.” Kristen softened. “And God promised that all the enemy has stolen will be restored, seven-fold.”

Our words and actions tell the truth of what we believe. The Psalmist encouraged himself (and us) to thank the Lord for all things … even the difficult times, and to remember His mercy (Psalm 107:1-2). We are the redeemed whether we feel like it or not. His mercy endures forever, no matter what our circumstances look like.

Today’s One Thing

Take time today to follow the Psalmist’s instructions.

  1. Give thanks to the Lord.
  2. Remember, He is good! Tell yourself how He’s been good to you.
  3. Celebrate His mercy that endures forever.
  4. Declare that you are the redeemed. He has pulled you from the hand of the enemy.
