Let His Love Do the Work

This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his one and only Son into the world so that we could have life through him. This is what real love is: It is not our love for God; it is God’s love for us. He sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins. Dear friends, if God loved us that much we also should love each other.

 Past wounds from those Marcy once trusted caused her to struggle with accepting God’s love and loving others. God faithfully sent trustworthy friends and church family into her life to demonstrate His love, encouraging her accept His love, and open her heart to others.

Then one Sunday morning, as her pastor read 1 John 4:9-11, the reality of God’s love began to work within her. She embraced the truth of the verse: It is not our love for God; it is God’s love for us. She suddenly saw God’s love in a fresh new way. She realized it wasn’t about her own ability to love and be loved. It was all on God. He loved her and could love through her. All she had to do was surrender. And that Sunday she did just that.

When you understand God’s love, demonstrated when He sent His Son so He could have a relationship with you – then you can do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:14). His love does the work through you. You can love because He first loved you.

Today’s One Thing

Ask the Lord to love through you with His immense, unconditional love demonstrated in Jesus’ death and resurrection. From your confident love relationship with Christ, the ability to sacrifice yourself to meet the needs of others will come through.
