Fighting the Battle in Your Mind

Fight the good fight of faith, grabbing hold of the life that continues forever. You were called to have that life when you confessed the good confession before many witnesses.

─ 1 Timothy 6:12 NCV

“10,000 steps … that doesn’t sound like a lot,” Holly commented to her sister-in-law, LeeAnn. But now, walking alone on the sidewalk in her neighborhood, her new goal seemed like a lot. The hot Texas sun beat down on her and she was grateful for the little shade along her four-mile trek. She knew exactly how far it was. She’d measured the mileage ahead of time in her car.

So, the battle began. She fought the desire to quit on the first leg. I’m doing this, she thought. It’s going to be a new habit. I’m not going to quit. When she rounded the corner of what she knew to be a quarter of the way, the thought to cut the walk-in half sneaked into her mind. She resisted again, and this time she pushed herself harder. “I will NOT quit,” she said aloud.

Suddenly she remembered Jude 1:3: “I want to encourage you to fight hard for the faith that was given the holy people of God once and for all time” (NCV). Holly thought about faith battles she was facing. She knew the battle was the same. “I’m not going to quit, devil,” she said. Then she began to pray. “God, I’m in for the long haul. I will not quit. Quitting is the only way I lose.”

What battles are you fighting today? The Bible encourages us to fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12). Don’t let the enemy of your soul talk you out of the promises of God.

Today’s One Thing

The scripture today affirms that you were called to have that life that continues forever when you confessed Jesus as your Savior. Refuse to quit. Remain determined to never quit. Ask God for strength to fight the fight.
