Lay It All Down – Anxiety and Fear

Cast your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

─ 1 Peter 5:7 NIV

We all carry burdens God never intended for us to carry around. Past mistakes, sins, regrets and problems, some of which aren’t even our own, weigh us down.

1 Peter 5:7 says “Cast your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (NIV). Casting your care literally means laying it down. Think about the times you’ve stood in line at a grocery store with an arm full of groceries, weighing you down. Then, what a relief when you finally get to the conveyor belt and lay them down.

That’s a great picture of how anxiety can overtake you. It’s just waiting for the next thing to come into your life and have a reason to overpower you. God doesn’t want you stuck in life, fearful and unable to experience the life He desires for you.

Our verse for today in The Passion Translation reads: “Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you.”

He’s calling to you to literally pour it all out before Him. Give your anxiety to Him.  Lay it down.  Perhaps you’ve carried that serious stuff in your heart for too long. It’s time to start unstuffing your emotions, pour it out to God and let Him have it.

Ask God to search your heart and reveal to you anything and everything you’re holding onto that you need to pour out to Him. Allow Him to free you from the weight of every care today.
