Look to the Book

For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are.

─ Hebrews 4:12 NLT

As a people of the United States of America, if we continue on the course that we are on today, where will we be in five years? Let’s get more personal. Within your home and in your own personal life, where will you be in two years from now if you continue on the course you’re on today? Only you can look into your heart and see the direction of your life as it relates to the decisions that you’re making. Maybe you feel at times  no matter where you turn you hit the wall and you can’t get out.

Hebrews 4:12 confirms the words throughout the Bible are God’s very words to you. It’s personal and powerful, living, life-changing if you give it first place in your life.

The Christian life is a directional life and the path to follow is found in the verses you allow to come to life within you. If it were not so, we wouldn’t find action verb phrases like; to walk, to love, to follow, to care, to wait, to submit, to sit and to stand in the Bible. It’s not just a book of how to be saved. It’s not just a book about the finish line.

There’s nothing more important to live an intentional life in Christ than following God’s directions in His book that give us instruction for living.

Today’s One Thing

Here are three ways to nourish your spiritual life with God’s Word. Pray and ask God how He would like you to incorporate one of these ideas into your day over the next week.

  • Memorize scripture. Start with the book of John and memorize 1-3 verses this week.
  • Listen to God’s Word. There are several free apps. Download one and listen to Scripture as you fall asleep.
  • Post a scripture on your social media page and share what it means to you. Ask others to comment and share their stories or thoughts about it.
