Give Kindness, Grace and Forgiveness

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

─ Ephesians 1:7 NLT

Even in Christian families, it is sometimes so hard to forgive. When you’ve been hurt emotionally by a loved one’s words or set back mentally by a lack of trust shown to you by a spouse or child, you can feel angry. The last thing you want to give that person is grace, unmerited love, or forgiveness. Yet that’s exactly what God calls us to do.

Paul’s words in Ephesians 1:7 serve as a reminder for you to demonstrate the same grace and love to others that Christ provided when He gave you forgiveness.

Perhaps you’ll be motivated by remembering again the undeserved and undying love you’ve received from Jesus Christ, a compassionate care so strong that He was willing to die for you. The same great God who gave His life for you will help you forgive those closest to you – those same people who can hurt you the most.

  • Show kindness.
  • Give grace to all by striving to see your loved one through God’s eyes.
  • Seek to hand over your hurt to God so He can heal and restore you.

Today’s One Thing

Write a letter of forgiveness for the person who has hurt you. You don’t have to give the letter to the person. Instead, read it back to God in prayer. Listen as He speaks to you.
