Dollars and Sense
Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Dollars and Sense
Nowhere in the Bible does it say a Christian is to pursue financial or material wealth – period. That doesn’t mean having a lot of money or possessions is a sin. But it does mean you’re not to chase after it, making money and things your life’s ambition or that which fulfills you emotionally.
Our decisions affect our lives. Wise money choices come down to dollars and sense. Choices become your habits, and your habits ultimately become your character. Decisions add up, especially true when it comes to how you spend money.
- One thing done once (a purchase) is an experience.
- One thing done twice (purchases on the same thing you enjoy; a Starbucks coffee, for instance) has your attention.
- One thing done often (repeated coffee purchases) is a pursuit.
- One thing done always (regular and consistent, daily coffee purchases) is a habit.
Here are five tips to make good choices and spend your money wisely:
- If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.
- If you don’t need it, leave it.
- Avoid impulse buying.
- Set aside enough for the future.
- Don’t rob God! (Malachi 3:6-12)
Good choices can develop into wise habits and a way of living that pleases Christ. You can do it!

Think about the words of affirmation you heard as a child. What difference did it make in your life? Send a note to the person who spoke those words and let them know how much those words still mean to you today.
