Wake Up and Step into the Light

But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, “Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you.”

─ Ephesians 5:13-14 NASB

Wake Up and Step into the Light

If you’ve ever sleepwalked, you have a vivid recollection of the meaning of today’s verse in a physical sense. You walked somewhere in the dark, asleep and suddenly woke up wondering how you got there. You probably navigated back to your room in the dark, bumping into things you forgot were in your path. Then, the next morning the path you took in the dark looks so different. The obstacles you fumbled over totally make sense to you in the light.

From a spiritual space, once we come to the light of God’s grace through salvation, we have the light of His love exposing all the dark places sin once hid in our lives. Paul (in our verse today) instructs us to bring anything hidden in the corners of our lives out into the light so that we may not deceive ourselves and believe a little sin is acceptable.

We are not to point and judge at others, but to speak the truth in love for what is true and right. And only after we’ve awakened from our own slumber and allowed God to help us remove any dark and hidden things in our own lives.

Today’s One Thing

If the Holy Spirit pointed to something in your life – a habit you need to change, or thought you need to let go of – invite Him in to wash you with the word of truth and bring you out fresh and new. He can help you wake up and step into the light today.
