Free from Death’s Grip

Since we, God’s children, are human beings—made of flesh and blood—he became flesh and blood too by being born in human form; for only as a human being could he die and in dying break the power of the devil who had the power of death. Only in that way could he deliver those who through fear of death have been living all their lives as slaves to constant dread.

─ Hebrews 2:14-15 TLB

Free from Death’s Grip

Death is not the end for those whose hope is in Christ. We have no reason to fear death. Jesus came to earth to die and live again. His death, burial and resurrection were the only way to rescue us, God’s greatest creation, from sin’s grip and eternal death.

Our verses today explain that Jesus took the form of a human being in order to destroy the devil’s power over death. Jesus went to hell and took the keys of hell and the grave from the devil so that all who believed on Him could rise again and live forever with God.

As Christ followers, when we die, we are immediately with God (2 Corinthians 5:8). When we lose someone we love who also knows Christ, we mourn for them because we have lost them in this life. Our hearts are heavy. We miss them, but in a little while, we will be reunited with them. We will see them again.

You’ve been freed from the fear of death. Jesus has given you eternal life.

Today’s One Thing

Have you lost someone you miss but know they are with Christ? Celebrate their life by thanking God that you will see them again one day, and pray for those who do not yet have freedom from death.
