How God’s Miracle Power Can Defy Your Reality
with Patrick Mayberry
Have you ever found yourself in a season where reality seems to clash with your desires and prayers? You’re not alone. Singer and songwriter Patrick Mayberry recently shared the story behind his song, “Breakthrough Miracle Power.” Find out why the words resonate with so many of us.
“I was just in a season where my wife and I were really praying for some really big things. And it’s funny at times, reality can be one thing and then the way you want it to go is a totally different thing.”
Struggles are a natural part of life. You may find comfort in knowing that even Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV).
“We just found ourselves really wrestling and praying and asking God.”
When faced with challenges, you might feel the urge to take control. But instead, you can lean into prayer and dependence on God. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (NIV).
Patrick’s pastor shared the story of the Israelites escaping Egypt, a tale that struck a chord with him. “Pharoah’s armies close in, and the reality is these guys are toast,” Patrick begins. “They can’t fight. They got nowhere to go, but God enters into the story and miraculously parts the ocean. The Israelites walk through scott free, and then God closes the waters back on the army, and they’re safe and sound. Reality was, they were toast, but God said, ‘I’m going to come into the story and I’m going to do something that you couldn’t do, but I can do it because I’m God.’ God’s in the business of defying reality.”
You can trust in God’s miraculous power.
When faced with insurmountable challenges, remember the words of Jeremiah 32:27, “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me” (NIV)?
“He’s looking for ways to blow our minds,” Patrick says, reflecting on God’s desire to perform miracles in our lives. You may find yourself asking, “Where’s that at in this season of my life?”
You can seek God’s presence in every season, knowing that “The mountains melt like wax in the presence of the Lord” (Psalm 97:5 NIV).
Embracing God’s Sovereignty
Patrick says, “It just became a desperate prayer, asking God’s epic breakthrough miracle power to come and rain down in our lives and defy reality in ways that we couldn’t imagine.” Patrick’s longing for God’s epic breakthrough miracle power is a reminder to embrace God’s sovereignty. You can find peace in knowing that God’s plan may not always align with your desires, but His ways are higher (Isaiah 55:9).
Patrick turned his feelings and prayers into a song that he hopes inspires us to turn to God in our struggles, to trust in His miraculous abilities and to find comfort in His presence.
May you experience God’s breakthrough miracle power at work in your life today.
