Letting the Holy Spirit lead brings the unexpected

God is always with you, guiding and directing your path, but sometimes it can be difficult to discern His voice amidst the noise of everyday life. That’s why it’s important to cultivate a heart that is receptive to His leading and to be intentional about seeking His will.

Katy Nichole’s experience with writing the song “In Jesus Name” is a powerful example of what can happen when we are open to God’s guidance. Katy shared with Family Life Radio, the song “was really birthed in 2020, but it wasn’t written until 2021. She smiled, “It’s just a crazy story of how again, God can move through someone and bring it full circle.”

She had an idea for a different song about healing in the previous year but felt led to change course when she sat down to write in August 2021. “When I went into the writer’s room, I said, ‘Guys, I had this idea and it was for a song where I would say, Let there be healing, like, declaring something over someone’s life. The others said, “Let’s pray over people because people need prayer right now.” Then, as she began to write, Katy felt the Holy Spirit guiding her, and after all the time she says, “the song practically wrote itself.”

God-inspired

Jesus promised His disciples, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13 NLT). As a Christ follower, you have access to the same Holy Spirit that guided Katy, and He can guide you into all truth as well. But, it requires you to be open and receptive to His leading.

If you truly want to experience God’s guidance, you must be willing to let go of your own plans and desires and surrender them to Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (NLT). When you choose to trust in God and acknowledge Him in all your ways, you can expect Him to make your path straight and to lead you down the path that is best for you.

God is a generous God who delights in giving wisdom to His children. “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking” (James 1:5 NLT). All you have to do is ask, and He will give you the wisdom we need to make the right decisions.

Sometimes, God will ask you to do things that are outside of your comfort zone or that you feel ill-equipped for. As you feel God’s leading, it’s also important to be willing to step out in faith. When you step out in faith, He will equip you and use us in ways we never thought possible.

His Guidance All Along

When you feel afraid or unsure, remember God has given you whatever you need to face the challenges that come your way.

In 2 Timothy 1:7, we are told, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” In conclusion, being open to God’s guidance requires us to surrender our plans and desires to Him, be intentional about seeking His will for our lives, and be willing to step out in faith when we feel His leading. It’s not always easy, but when we trust in Him and follow His guidance, we can be confident that He will lead us down the path that is best for us.

Let us remember the words of Psalm 32:8, “The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'” As we navigate through life, let us trust in the Lord and His guidance, knowing that He will always be with us, leading and guiding us every step of the way.
