5 Things For Positive Mental and Emotional Health

It can be easy to become caught up in the stresses and worries of the world around us. A significant number of people struggle with a lack of peace due to stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. The American Psychological Association’s annual Stress in America survey found that in 2020, 78% of adults in the United States reported experiencing at least one symptom of stress, such as feeling nervous or anxious, or experiencing irritability or anger.

Peace of mind makes the body healthy.
– Proverbs 14:30 GNT

But as Proverbs 14:30 reminds us, a heart at peace gives life to the body. So how can you cultivate this sense of peace and contentment in your own life? Prioritize your mental and emotional health. It is crucial to take time to care for your mind and heart, as well as your body.

It takes time and effort to care for your mind and heart, but the rewards are immeasurable.

  1. Be willing to ask for help from a professional. Sometimes Christians struggle to seek help because they feel like others might judge them for a lack of faith. But a challenge with mental and emotional health is not a reflection of how much faith you have.
  2. Set aside specific times for prayer and meditation. Taking time each day to connect with God and reflect on His Word can help to calm your mind and fill you with a sense of peace (Philippians 4:6-7).
  3. Practice forgiveness. Holding onto grudges and resentments can create an unhealthy heaviness in the heart, preventing you from experiencing true peace and contentment. Instead, we should seek to forgive others as we have been forgiven by God (Colossians 3:13).
  4. Seek to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Shift your focus away from your own worries and concerns (Matthew 25:40).
  5. Choose to have a grateful heart in all circumstances. Turning your thoughts to what you are grateful for can help you to find a sense of contentment (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

It takes time and effort to care for our minds and hearts, but the rewards are immeasurable. Lean into the guidance of God’s Word, and may your heart be filled with the peace that only comes from knowing Him.
