A Promise to All Who Read and Embrace the Message
Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
─ Revelation 1:3 ESV
When you think about the book of Revelation, your first thoughts are probably not about the blessings it holds, and yet the third verse in the very first chapter (our verse for today) promises blessing to the one who reads and embraces these words of prophecy.
The apostle John, near the end of his life, was given insight – a powerful vision of what is to come – captured in Scripture to benefit believers from his day and into all of eternity.
Many admit they avoid reading the last book of the Bible because it’s perceived to be difficult to understand and even fearful to some. John says, “the appointed time is in your hands,” giving you the sense that you can have the full understanding of the book of Revelation. It is ready to be unveiled to you when you are ready to receive it. As a follower of Christ, you have nothing to fear. You can walk toward your future with confidence because Jesus Christ walks with you.
Today’s One Thing
Ask God to open your eyes to understand and experience the blessing He has for you in Revelations. Look at the six other blessings found in Revelation:
- For those who die knowing God (14:13).
- For those who stay prepared for the Lord’s return (16:15).
- The invitation to the wedding supper of the lamb (19:9).
- The dead in Christ are resurrected first (20:5).
- For all who believe what is written (22:7).
- For those who cleanse their robes (22:14).
