Applause for God

For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.

─ Deuteronomy 20:4

Tucker, a theater major, slipped into the quiet auditorium. He walked along the center aisle and sat down in one of the chairs on the front row. Since childhood, he dreamed of living and working in theater. While growing up, he performed for family, friends and his small community. He soaked it all in – theater history, playwriting, acting, directing, lighting, scenery and costume design.

Unlike many of his classmates, his dream of theater didn’t come easily. He had to fight for it. He had a learning disability that made it difficult to focus, read, memorize lines and understand the technology for stage and sound. Nevertheless, he received a college scholarship to continue pursuing his dream.

He pressed in and worked hard and believed God would make a way – and He did. Tucker faithfully gave God the credit anytime someone complimented him on his accomplishments. Suddenly, he jumped up from his seat in the empty theater and took center stage. He faced his audience of One. He thrust his hands upward to God and lifted his voice in praise. “You did this, God!” He slowly brought his hands down and began to clap. God deserved all the applause!
