Beyond Excitement

Remember the time when you experienced an extraordinary amount of excitement and joy? Your body tingled with such great emotions that you smiled from ear to ear, and maybe tears even flowed uncontrollably with happiness. The moment seemed surreal, but it wasn’t; it was genuine. This joy-filled moment became part of your life, memories and testimony.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
─ Romans 15:13 ESV

God created us with various natural chemicals to be released by the body’s brain and central nervous system when we experience a burst of excitement, accomplishment, delight or joy. The chemical doesn’t last for long, but the experience is often remembered for a lifetime.

Jennifer watched her daughter Emily try out for one of the top USA ballet companies. Many years of technical training, dedication, diet and exercise had gone into this opportunity. While there had been other performing accomplishments, Emily had her eyes set on becoming a performer with this company. Emily had cut out articles and hung pictures in her room, dreaming of the day she would perform at the ballet.

The moment came at the audition when the selected dancers were announced. Jennifer and Emily held hands with anticipation as they listened for the names to be called. The first name was announced, and then the second name was spoken. Mom and daughter looked at each other unsure, but still hoped Emily’s name would be called, as other names were announced. Then, as the last name was announced, everyone heard – Emily.

Mom and daughter shrieked with excitement, and their eyes filled with tears. The elation of being selected had come into fruition.

God created us to experience overflowing joy beyond our understanding.

The times you have felt over-the-top excitement are glimpses of how the Lord created you to experience joy. He desires good things for you, especially when you invite Him to speak into your life. God loves you, and He will honor, protect and richly bless you. You have been chosen, and He has many joyful experiences planned for your future. Live with excitement and joy.
