Call on Him

“I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.”

—Psalm 116:1-2

Have you ever been at a crowded playground and watched as children laugh, screech and chase each other? It sounds like complete chaos, with the nearby parents seemingly oblivious. But if just one screams, “Mom!” or “Dad!” every adult head will snap up and around. By the second call, the right parent sprints for the voice of their child while the other parents relax.

Parents know their child’s voice. Kids rely on this, whether they realize it or not. They call out, expecting a response, knowing their parent represents safety, security and love.

Our Heavenly Father likewise knows us. He loves us and He wants to protect us. When we turn to Him, He is there, listening, answering, sheltering—because like every good parent, He wants the best for His children. He listens to our pleas for help, our praises and songs of love and our most desperate prayers.

When we call out to the Lord, we can do so with the absolute certainty of a beloved child. He’s listening.

Today’s One Thing

Take a few minutes today—and every day—just to say aloud that you love Him, and that you know He loves you.
