Call Out to Your God of Compassion
“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
─ Isaiah 55:6 ESV
Erica stood over her washing machine, watching the dry clothes get sucked down into the water as the overloaded machine sloshed. She closed the lid. That is how I feel, she thought, sucked under by all the things going on in my life. Suddenly, the verse from Isaiah 55 popped into her head. “Seek the Lord while he can be found; call upon him while he is near.”
She closed her eyes and imagined herself reaching toward God, but He seemed just outside of her grasp – her fingertips only inches from His. She knew she’d allowed her day to day, busy life to crowd Him out. She leaned against the washing machine and called to Him, and this time she found Him.
God doesn’t move away from us, but sometimes we move away from Him – often unintentionally. Never think that He’s too far from you can’t reach Him. His arm is never too short to draw you in once again, close to Him.
Today’s One Thing
Find a quiet place today to get alone with God. Then, imagine yourself reaching out to Him as He embraces you to connect with His compassionate heart.
