Closing the Gap through Forgiveness

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

─ Revelation 21:4

The thick fog hung in the air as if ready to take her breath, should she venture out. The powerful and drenching rain had finally stopped after days of an unrelenting downpour. It wasn’t really the rain that bothered Heather, but the heaviness in her heart that squeezed her so hard, she sometimes felt she couldn’t breathe.

Heather was hiding, and had been for some time, from those who loved her the most. She wanted to hide from God, and would if she thought she could, but she knew that wasn’t possible. No matter where she turned, she felt Him calling out to her, searching to connect with her once again.

Her choices – her sin – had driven a wedge between them, or she wanted to let herself think so. But no matter where she turned, she felt God gently reminding her that no matter how far she ran, nothing could ever separate her from His love.

She knew what she had to do. She couldn’t continue to live this way. She missed the joy of His salvation, and so she lifted her head to heaven and confessed it all to Him. The guilt and condemnation seemed to wash away as she accepted His forgiveness. The gap between herself and her Savior vaporized, and she stepped into His presence, free once again.

Today’s One Thing

Refuse to allow unconfessed sin to steal your joy. Confess anything that has remained unsaid to God, accept His forgiveness and walk in the freedom that only He can give.
