God Gives Much More

Digging deep for the important matters brings abundant blessings.

Give me now wisdom and knowledge.

– 2 Chronicles 1:10 ESV

After David died, his son Solomon became king. Scripture says after King Solomon spoke to all Israel and sacrificed a thousand burnt offerings before the Lord, God appeared to him. He asked Solomon what He should give him.

Solomon replied to God, “You have shown great and steadfast love to David my father, and have made me king in his place. O Lord God, let your word to David my father be now fulfilled, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me now wisdom and knowledge to go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours, which is so great” (2 Chronicles 1:8-10 ESV)?

When you ask God for true priorities, He blesses you with so much more.

Since Solomon did not ask for possessions, wealth, honor, a long life or the life of those who hated him, God blessed him with all that he did not ask for and more. He gave him wisdom and knowledge to rule His people. He also gave him riches, possessions and honor like no king before or after him (2 Chronicles 1:11-12 ESV).

Since Solomon focused on the most important things, God blessed him with much more.

Think of when you have experienced this in your life. What have you been currently asking of God? Is it time for a refocus on contentment and diligence in your job, the ability to truly forgive or the boldness to share the gospel?

Today’s One Thing

Ask God to remind you of how He has answered your prayers in the past. Ask Him to search your heart and point to what truly matters today. Then ask Him for that and believe Him for His provision.
