He Makes Your Burden Light

Long to do God’s will and take time to depend on Him for your “marching orders.”

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

– Matthew 11:28 ESV

“Beware of outstripping God by your very longing to do his will,” Oswald Chambers cautioned in My Utmost for His Highest.

Life gets busy, and you may find yourself running around doing so much that you are not taking the time to commune with God. When things get rough or a difficult person crosses your path, you may respond abruptly or with a pat answer of a Bible verse, instead of taking the time to listen to their heart and to the Holy Spirit as well.

Discouragement may set in because you are weary and have come to depend upon yourself instead of God and His strength as you work and minister to those around you.

Time alone with God gives you the strength to do the work He has for you.

You can depend on God. He wants you to. “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV). He has specifically prepared work for you and will lead you as you seek Him. As you walk in His plans, He is glorified and that fulfills your purpose.

Spending time alone with God, even if you are not used to doing it, is the best thing you can do. Begin with a few minutes a day.

Today’s One Thing

Get alone with God for ten minutes. Ask Him to help you stay committed to taking the time to read His Word and to pray daily.
