His Light Shines in the Darkness
The light of Christ exposes truth in the darkness.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
– John 1:5 ESV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). John echoes these words in John 1:1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (KJV). In John 1:14, you learn the Word is Jesus.
God spoke creation into existence. Creation came about through the Word of God. The Word reveals the thoughts of God to man. John applies these things to Jesus. He came in the flesh providing life and light in the darkness. Darkness cannot overcome His light.
Jesus shines light in the dark places.
No matter how dark situations may seem, Jesus shines His light to reveal God’s truth. Light pierces the darkness, but darkness cannot take over His light.
Is there a situation that seems so impossibly dark to you? Imagine what the light of Christ would expose. His light shines in the darkest of places, revealing the glory of God, who is full of grace and truth.
In John 20:32 John explains his purpose for writing his gospel. It was to urge his readers to believe and continue believing that Jesus is the Son of God. His wish for his readers was that by believing they would have true life in His light. You can trust that God’s light always wins over darkness.
