Honor the Sacrifice of the Brave

Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

─ Romans 13:7 ESV

Give Only Good

Memorial Day is the day Americans set aside to honor those brave men and women who met tragic ends while defending our freedom. It is our privilege and duty to honor their sacrifices, to pray for their families, and to bow our heads in recognition of their service.

Romans 13:7 compels us to pay what is owed, to respect those who deserve our respect and give honor to those to whom it is due. Those who gave their lives for the freedom we have in this great country are definitely owed our honor.

Think about the sacrifices of so many for so long to keep our country free. Think about the gift God gave us who live here when he prompted a little band of freedom-seeking pilgrims to venture out in search of a land that was free. And never forget that their motivation was not just for a better life for themselves but for the opportunity to expand the kingdom of God by sharing His Good News.

Today’s One Thing

Take time to pray for the families whose loved ones paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. If you know someone, send them a note and let them know you’re thinking about their family today and the gift they valiantly gave to us. And if you don’t know anyone, bow your head in recognition of their service and ask God to bless their families in a special way.
