Hope Against the Odds

When you find yourself surrounded by questions and grief, Jesus offers you trust and hope against all odds.

Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”

– John 11:40 ESV

A heartbreaking event took place in Bethany as Lazarus, a dear friend of Jesus, fell ill and died. Amidst the grief, Jesus’ love and compassion enveloped the family, revealing the depth of His connection with them and, ultimately, with each of His own. The scene is vividly portrayed in John, Chapter 11.

You can hope against the odds when circumstances are difficult

In this moment you can experience Martha’s decision to trust Jesus even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges. Martha’s faith progresses as Jesus led her from one promise to the next. It is an inspiring example for believers today, reminding you to hold onto trust and hope when circumstances are bleak.

Jesus waited to be sure Lazarus was indeed dead for four days, before going to be with this family who was close to His heart. He did this so there would be no question that God raised him from the dead.

In the midst of Lazarus’ resurrection, Jesus’ love transcended the boundaries of grief, showcasing a profound connection with humanity that continues to resonate through the ages. Martha’s trust serves as a timeless reminder to anchor your faith in the unwavering love of Christ, confident that He holds the power to bring forth life even from the darkest moments.

Today’s One Thing

A prayer you can pray: Lord, I trust in Your perfect timing, just as Martha did. Help me to patiently wait for Your plan even when I don’t fully understand, knowing that Your love and compassion are ever-present. Amen.
