Husbands, Love Like Christ

For a moment, imagine the depth of Christ’s love for the church. It’s a love that knows no bounds, a love that embraces even in the face of flaws and imperfections. Husbands, or men hoping to be husbands, this is the kind of love you are called to give in your marriage.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

– Ephesians 5:25 ESV

Love for your wife is about your decision to love unconditionally, to prioritize her wellbeing and happiness over your own.

As you ponder this, consider how Christ’s love is patient, kind and forgiving. He sees you for who you are and who you can become. In your marriage, you have the opportunity to mirror His love. It means being patient with your spouse’s imperfections, being kind in your words and actions and ready to forgive. It’s about seeing the potential in your wife and encouraging her to grow into the person God intends.

Build a partnership with your spouse that reflects the unity and love of Christ for the church.

This kind of love requires action and intentionality. And as you make daily choices to put your spouse’s needs above your own, to communicate with love and respect, you begin to build a partnership that reflects the unity and love of Christ for the church. You cultivate a space where you can grow together in faith and love.

As you seek to love as Christ loved, remember that His love is the perfect example, and He wants to help you fulfill this command to love your wife as Christ loved the church.

Today’s One Thing

Pray for God’s unconditional help and rely upon Him. Affirm to yourself, “I choose to love as Christ loved the church. I commit to loving my spouse selflessly, with patience, kindness and a heart full of grace. In my words, actions and thoughts, I will reflect Christ’s love, bringing glory to God through my marriage.”
