Joyful Actions

Jason’s wife, Sarah, asked if he’d seen the dog bowl. Teasing her, he replied, “I didn’t even know he could bowl.”

Hopefully, that brought a slight smile or a chuckle as you consider how the Lord loves you dearly, wants you to be happy – filled with joy and laughter – even if it’s through a corny joke.

“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones”
─ Proverbs 17:22 ESV

Choosing to be happy and surrounding yourself with Christian friends and colleagues who participate in wholesome conversation, encouraging words and laughter brings good medicine to the soul. The Lord desires for you to be happy and filled with joy (Psalms 37:4).

Smile, laugh with others, laugh at yourself and enjoy the Lord’s creation.

Reflecting on a mission trip to Honduras to help drill water wells and provide general maintenance to established wells, one of the leaders said, “The work performed was memorable, but the time spent playing soccer with elementary school-aged children and building positive rapport with the community’s residents was the real highlight. The children were happy, energetic and playful.”

Each day’s end, the team members were tired. They worked and played hard and enjoyed each day’s interactive moments. By the end of the week, they completed their objective of helping a Honduran community gain access to clean water. “But we will never forget the joy and laughter we experienced with the children and community members” the leader shared.

You’ll find joy and laughter in the Lord when you pursue Him and love others. A cheerful smile or positive words spoken to another person brings encouragement regardless of age or circumstances. You are the person to bring happy communication and demonstrate the Lord’s promises to give life and have it abundantly.

Today’s One Thing
Pray and ask the Lord for the names of three individuals with whom you can share encouraging words. Your positive actions can be verbal or written. Delight yourself in the Lord when you bring this joyful moment to someone else.
